About This Course
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allow visualizing, mapping and analyzing location specific data to help solve spatial problems and make fact-based decisions. In this course, we teach the fundamental components and capabilities of the software QGIS, give introduction to several geodata formats and sources, discover how various analyses and visualization techniques can help different stakeholders in planning and monitoring effective electrification measures. The material included in the course will support an in-person training scheduled in September 2022 in Abuja and addressed to private companies. Prior this training, all the participants are requested to install QGIS version 3.22, following the steps shown in the video in the section "Preparatory steps". Further training material will be added after the in-person training.
This course is the second course of the NESP training series and will cover the following topics:
- Participants have a running QGIS version installed on their laptops and are familiar with the user interface
- Participants understand the potentials of GIS in general and also the applicability of it for their respective tasks
- Participants understand different types of spatial data, how to import them into QGIS and interpret them.
- Participants know sources of relevant spatial data products (i.a. SE4ALL platform), can independently download those and extract relevant information
- Participants know how to generate and edit geodata in QGIS
- Participants have an understanding of geographically correct map making and suitable styling of data, they understand the potential of map making for improved communication and decision making
- Participants understand the tool “KoboToolbox” for data collection and know how to add and analyze resulting information in QGIS
